Displaying its place in American folklore, the Pullen Park Carousel features an eagle grasping a Stars and Stripes and an olive branch, a symbol of peace. Round About Here I t was 1967, and e Hollies had a hit song, "On a Carousel," taking listeners "round and round and round and round with you" and "up, down, up, down, up, down, too." Today you can do the same, with Raleigh being home to not one, but two, classic carousels: Pullen Park's circa 1900 Dentzel with its menagerie of 52 hand-carved wooden animals and Chavis Park's circa 1916 Herschell with 36 hand-carved horses and two chariots.
