Sure, there's no original Nathan's Famous Hotdogs stand here. But there is Britt's, which since 1939 has been creating melt-in-your-mouth donuts to die for. "It's like eating air. It is just wonderful," said Donna Norris, a local who swears by them. ere's no Cyclone rollercoaster, taking riders on an 85-foot, 60-degree plunge at speeds of 60 mph. But there are upwards of 20 pulsating rides, such as Flying Bob's fast-paced simulation of a toboggan run and the be-sure-to-hang on Wave Swinger, though you have to wait till the 5 p.m. opening. It's Carolina Beach, whose seaside shops and boardwalk book-ended by hotels make for a stroll punctuated with the sounds of the arcade and even the smell of Italian sausage, offering a whiff perhaps of the Jersey Shore.
