"I didn't feel that was necessarily us," Denny DeVoe said of his family, comprised of Melissa and their then two sons, Chase and Dylan. (A third son, young Clarkson, had not yet arrived.) "I wouldn't say we had big, bold personalities," she said. At the time, the New York-natives-turned-North Raleigh home- owners were in search of a bigger house, bigger yard, and a photo stu- dio for Melissa DeVoe's newborn photography business. "It felt like the neighbors already knew us," she said of the notoriety. "e neighborhood's been great." And what of that burning question that flickers in the minds of viewers of HGTV's "House Hunters? "Do they really look at only three houses?" "No," Melissa DeVoe said. "It's made for TV," Denny DeVoe said. In fact, the DeVoes had already signed on the dotted line, closed on their pick. "We went right from the bank," he said, "and pretended like we'd never seen it." The filming of "House Hunters" gave the DeVoe boys a chance to check out the technology. Young Chase DeVoe tries on a headset and at right Dylan and HGTV cameraman Jimmy Hall plan a shot.
