Check out our digital editions at 27587magazine.com and mobilemagz.com e topic has surged to the forefront anew in this place we call home, from the advent of a new music scene emerging in the old college town of Wake Forest to Durham's capturing the title as "the hippest city in North Carolina," compliments of high fashion magazine Vogue. So, we took to the streets near and far to capture some of that flavor for our cover story, "Hip, Around N.C." And we'll even share a little secret: is magazine's editor was captured on film in that TIME story, pictured with his young daughter and son, loading a brick-oven pizza into the back of his white Jeep Cherokee Sport. Next, it being the eve of the 90th Academy Awards, we stir up some memories of going to the picture show in these parts in our "Rewind" section. In "How About at," we visit a barber whose solitary model car (on display in his shop's window) multiplied into 60-odd vehicles, compliments of his loyal customers; and we visit with "Freckles," part-beagle, part-basset hound, as he captures the hearts of those working 9-to-5. And don't miss our regular "is Classic Place" and "Portrait of an Artist" features, as well as "Picture is," which this issue features a visit to a barn dance. And we revisit a cover story of a year ago, with "Tales of the Tags, e Sequel." Again, too, we extend a hearty "ank you!" to our "Publisher's Circle," those civic-minded entities whose annual commitment to advertise in 27587 MAGAZINE in effect makes them partners in bringing this magazine to you, our readers. Please join us in welcoming homebuilder CalAtlantic as it joins e Forks Cafeteria & Catering, Roark Premier Team, e Jim Allen Group, Whitley Furniture Galleries, Bright Funeral Home, Triangle Family Dentistry, Brooks Street Bowl, and Leli's Diner as well as Molly Maid, Wake Forest Downtown, and the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce in this special group! While we're at it, we'd like to extend an invitation to more of our top corporate citizens to join 27587 Magazine in this endeavor. So, as we've said time and again, come along as we — in the words of National Geographic — embrace "places to explore and discoveries to be made," only in our neck of the North Carolina Piedmont. Philip M. Read Editor & Publisher M uch has been written about the phenomenon of being "hip." It was long ago, in 1994, that TIME magazine had this lament, "If everyone is hip … is anyone hip?"
