Wake Forest 27587 Magazine | Winter 2018 33 The Schlink House Echos of larger than life family histories dominate this North College Ave. home S T here's a sense of American aristocracy in this place, perhaps best personified in the larger-than-life portrait that once adorned a private manor home known as "Glenelg," an imposing stone estate with a castle-like battlement overlooking 585 acres. "at was their summer home," Parker Schlink said of William Braden Lowndes, her grandfather, who as a banker and then son of the late Maryland Gov. Lloyd Lowndes acquired that Maryland estate in 1915. "e one in the middle is my dad (Upshur Lowndes), his three brothers, and Adam (the dog)," she said of the portrait.
