Wake Forest 27587 Magazine | Autumn 2017 69 12th annual Gobbler's Run 5k Thursday, Nov. 23, 8 a.m. The 12th Annual Gobbler's 5k Run kicks off Thanksgiving morning, marking a great time to spend with the family while getting a head start working off that extra helping of stuffing. The 3.1 mile loop is an easy stroll or run through downtown and historic Wake Forest. Push your kids or bring your dog -- strollers and pets are welcome. Kids 5 and under are free! You'll get a race T-shirt and be able to eat more turkey without the guilt! Adults are $20 if registered by Oct. 31, youth $15. After which, registration fees in $5 increments to a maximum $30 just ahead of race day. The race, which typically attracts more than 2,000 runners, starts at 8 a.m. at the Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club, 325 S. Wingate St. For more information, go to gobblersrun.com. Downtown Holiday Open House Saturday, Dec. 2, 10 a.m.- 3p.m. Visit historic downtown Wake Forest and experience a hearty dose of holiday cheer during the Downtown Holiday Open House. Sponsored by Wake Forest Downtown Inc., the Downtown Holiday Open House includes special offers and complimentary refreshments at participating shops and restaurants, live entertainment, a food drive to benefit Tri-Area Ministry, and fun-filled activities for kids and families. A variety of special events and activities will be offered throughout the day at no cost, including the following: Face Painting; 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., and pictures with Santa; 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., both at The Cotton Company, 306 S. Wake Forest Christmas Parade Saturday, Dec. 9, 1-4 p.m. You're invited to experience the sights and sounds of the holiday season at the Wake Forest Christmas Parade. The parade along S. White Street gets under way at 1 p.m. and will be held rain or shine. Widely considered one of our area's most popular holiday spectacles, Wake Forest's annual Christmas parade features more than 100 colorful floats and entries from businesses, churches, schools, and civic groups, as well as high school marching bands and — of course — Santa Claus. Call (919) 435-9415. Friday, Dec. 1, 6 to 8 p.m. Experience the magic of the holiday season at the Lighting of Wake Forest. Presented by Wake Forest Downtown Inc., the event gets under way at 6 p.m. in Centennial Plaza, 301 S. Brooks St., the gateway to the Wake Forest Town Hall. This year's ceremony will feature the lighting of a 30-feet-tall Christmas tree, followed by the arrival of Jolly Old St. Nick. The event is free and open to the public.
