Competitive cyclist; Oak City Cycling Project Race Team, Raleigh "For me, I started out as a marathon and distance running competitor. I started riding a bike about a year ago and naturally fell into racing But, it took me a while to figure out that I could make any money in cycling until I started racing cyclocross (CX). You must buy your way in to all races, and that money goes into a pot that goes to the event organizer and the winners, but in CX I realized that I would be able to pay for my next race by winning the ones before it. It was an incentive, but I really do it for the experience. Riding CX is all about the team and the atmosphere and getting to hang out with your friends." NOTE: Cyclocross is a type of bike race where participants will complete laps on a short course of pavement, gravel, wooded trails, grass and other crosscountry conditions. ABBY THIELE
