Remember "Nantucket," founded that same year, and its 1978 hit "Heartbreaker?" Well, they're still at it, though lead singer Larry Uzzell is also manning an outdoor fresh-žsh stand called Shrimp Mate right here in Wake Forest. Telltale sign: He's wearing a "Nantucket" band shirt. We also meet up with Michael Connell of £e Connells, that Raleigh band that gave the world the hit record "'74-'75" in 1995 and toured Europe performing it. £en there's Steve Earnhart, a transplant to these shores and a proližc jazz bass player whose stage presence included opening for Eddie Money of "Take Me Home Tonight" fame. Next stop, given the rekindled interest in cathedrals after the horrižc blaze at Notre Dame de Paris, we visit Duke Chapel, a cathedral in its own right, in "is Classic Place." Prepare to be awed. In "Rewind," we learn anew about the exploits of a petite Tiny Broadwick, who a century ago became the žrst woman to parachute from an airplane. In our "Field Trip" feature, we go to the hometown of another female aviation pioneer, Myrtle £ompson, who in 1961 became one of the "Mercury 13" cadet of would-be female astronauts who endured the training but never quite made it into space. £e place: Selma And don't overlook our latest "Portrait of an Artist," this time featuring Tony Alderman, whose work has a distinctly nautical theme for summer, or our photo essay on an evening at a drive-in movie in "Picture is," brought to you by photographer Bob Karp, whose list of press association awards makes him the latest valuable asset to 27587 Magazine's sta°. Again, as always, we'd like to express our sincere thanks to the members of our "Publisher's Circle," those civic-minded entities whose annual commitment to advertise in 27587 Magazine makes them partners in bringing this magazine to you, our readers. Be sure to see the special page devoted to them on Page 74 and at 27587magazine.com. So, join us as we delve into "places to explore and discoveries to be made" right here in our ever- popular corner of the North Carolina Piedmont. Philip M. Read Editor & Publisher
