How About That! Quick, sometimes quirky reads I t was billed as the "Super Blood Wolf Moon Eclipse," a rarity born of the convergence of three lunar phenomena: a lunar eclipse, paired with a January "wolf moon," at the same time as the moon was unusually close to Earth, making it a so-called supermoon. And oh, that red! During totality, according to National Geographic, the full moon does not disappear entirely and instead turns a rusty shade of red, earning it the moniker "blood moon." This striking image, taken by 27587 Magazine photographer Bob Karp while in Cary, shows the celestial event transitioning from a partial eclipse at 11:04 p.m. on Jan. 20 through the total eclipse at 11:46 p.m. For all those camera buffs, Karp used a Canon 80D and 400 mm lens with (for the first two images) a 1.4 extender. What about the final image? "Because of the position of the moon in the sky, I needed to shoot handheld while on my back," he said. The next total lunar eclipse? You'll have to wait till May 26, 2021. In case you missed it Wake Forest 27587 Magazine | Spring 2019 13
