6 Autumn 2018 | Wake Forest 27587 Magazine Letters Points of distinction e latest issue with the dierent businesses "in a box" was clever, and the illustrations, by Philip Read Jr., of course were great. e art has helped de…ne the look of the magazine as truly unique among the dozen or so other regional/town- focused ones (many of which are really just lengthy advertorials). 27587 Magazine manages to keep up with the changing landscape of Wake Forest (both good and bad), which helps to set it apart from others and substantiates its value to readers and advertisers alike. Another point of distinction is the fact that the cover art and illustrations are hand-drawn, and not photographs or computer- generated graphics, and take time and care to create — sadly a lost art in periodicals and print media these days. In short, the magazine is easily recognizable by the unique artwork and storytelling, which makes it all the more enjoyable to read. We look forward to each volume and what new renderings will be coming next. Keep up the great work! Scott and Sharyn Leaver North Raleigh 9LVLWWR0DFFOHVÀHOG I am writing to express my gratitude for your road trip to the small town of Maccles…eld, N.C., featured in the Spring 2018 issue of 27587 Magazine. At the time, I was the mayor, a position I relinquished to take another job that was in con˜ict with the position; however, I still found it to be necessary to send this letter. It amazed me how much knowledge Mr. Read had of this small town. He even had an original Better Homes & Gardens magazine from 1949, which featured our town for winning a national beauti…cation contest run by the high-pro…le magazine. is prompted me to search for a copy as well, and I was able to …nd one on eBay. I was very impressed with the research that had been done before his visit to Maccles…eld. Everyone whom I shared this article with was truly impressed. It was so well written that it impressed the locals who read it — which is sometimes a hard task! e history was so well documented and featured some of our incredible citizens. Mr. Read is a true professional, and it is evident that he is passionate about his job. I appreciate his taking time to visit our small town. Although they may not be everyone's cup of tea, small towns are treasures that should be spotlighted the way that 27587 Magazine has strived to do.
