Perhaps you shouldn't be too surprised given North Carolina, after all, is the locale where the "rst English child was born in America, namely Virginia Dare. And, it turns out, there's plenty of British expats around these days as well, those blokes fond of a˜ectionally calling you "mate" and looking to tackle the task at hand, as they say, "straight-away." And living in this corner of the North Carolina Piedmont, they'll tell you, is just "hunky-dory," thank you. So, cuddle up with a cup of afternoon tea and delve into our cover story, "e Brits in Our Midst," and meet up with expats whose only complaint is having a hard time "nding some proper "sh & chips and bangers. From there, we'll read about the family dynasty at City Lunch in downtown Franklinton in "Rewind" and the "showstoppers" who'll give you the red-carpet treatment and a hearty "Enjoy the show!" at the Durham Performing Arts Center, or DPAC, in "How About at." In our "Portrait of an Artist" feature, you'll get to meet Donna Slade, whose expertise in "contem- porary realism" is achieved with colored pencils, and it's a craft that she'll admit requires lots and lots of patience. In this issue's "Classic Place," we take you inside a million-dollar home wedded to a circa 1922 granary, a hint of the days when dairies were abundant in this region. And come with us to the banks of the Cape Fear River as our "Field Trip" takes us to Lillington, coincidentally where Paul Eliot Green, author of the stage play "§e Lost Colony" and its depiction of the "rst English settlement in America, entered the world. §is being our 4th anniversary edition and the start of our "fth year with you, we'd like to give a shout out to the now record number of advertisers — nearly 60 — who in e˜ect are making us the go-to publication for your guide to local shops and services! And again, we'd like to express our sincere thanks to our "Publisher's Circle," those civic-minded entities whose annual commitment to advertise in 27587 Magazine once again makes them partners in bringing this magazine to you, our readers. Take a bow Flow Mini of Raleigh, Lennar Homes, e Forks Cafeteria & Catering, The Jim Allen Group, Whitley Furniture Galleries, Bright Funeral Home, Triangle Family Dentistry, Brooks Street Bowl, and Leli's Diner as well as Molly Maid, Wake Forest Downtown, and the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce! While we're at it, we'd like to extend an invitation to more of our top corporate citizens to join 27587 Magazine in this endeavor. So, grab a cup of afternoon tea and a scone too for that matter and enjoy "places to explore and discoveries to be made" right here in our neck of the North Carolina Piedmont. Philip M.
